Considering Charlotte - Human Sexuality - Episode 2

The panel considers petitions pertaining to the topic of human sexuality and the definition of marriage

It is difficult to properly explain how it is that the UMC has come to this point. Even so, after all the developments of the last few years, this is probably the primary issue around which everything else revolves. We knew that we needed to attempt to offer some basic history before presenting things as they are. We were glad to find that a great deal of clarity could be had despite differences of opinion on a few important matters.

Veterans in these matters who have been tracking the developments of the denomination regarding human sexuality will find all of this interesting. Folks who are new to the topic, for whom things seem very clear, will also find it worthwhile to figure out how these things came to be. While it would be impossible to treat this topic perfectly in a one-hour format, this is a noble and worthy effort.

Our prayers and concern are extended to Simon Mafunda, who was unable to join us for this session because of the death of his brother. We ask the Lord’s comfort and consolation for him and his loved ones.

Make sure to let us know your thoughts. What additional questions are you left with that you hope we will deal with in future episodes? What do you wish we had considered in our analysis here?

Also make sure to share this with other UMs, especially General Conference delegates, as we hope to have an educated and conscientious body assembled in April.
